The stellar career of Jamal Taslaq

Jamal Taslaq shared a message of peace with his 45 outfits on the runway last week in the elegant halls of the UN headquarters in New York.
The Italian-Palestinian designer who studied Fashion Design at the Accademia Italiana in Florence was the first to bring Italian fashion to the Glass Palace, in the prestigious Ecosoc hall, a symbolic room where cultures from around the world gather for the most important meetings among the nations' institutions. It was an extraordinary opportunity that underlined the fashion designer's talent and the global recognition of the Made in Italy brand, on the occasion of the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People promoted by the UN. After the success of his last collection, in which music and fashion united in a universal language, Taslaq has paid tribute to his land, rich with charm and artisanal traditions. His creations - suits and cocktail dresses, and of course his evening gowns characterized by geometric cuts - are all made in Italy, and enriched with ancient traditional Palestinian embroidering. Colors such as white, ivory, red, green and black were chosen for light fabrics such as silk, chiffon and crepe. To end the show Taslaq sent out a bridal gown embroidered entirely by hand with pearls carved from olive wood, finished with silk threading and inlaid with golden stones, mother of pearl and light colored wood.
