Specialization Programs -
This course leading to a specialization in Fashion Photography is targeted at anyone interested in acquiring the professional training necessary to become immediately competitive in the job market. The professional fashion photographer must be competent in every creative process of fashion photography, whether photographs are taken in the studio or outdoors or are still-life compositions. Knowing how to communicate the identity of a brand or the concept of a collection through a photograph, a single image, means having a strategic role and being highly sought after in the fashion industry. Making the most of details, materials and colors, building a set and managing the post-production of the shots are key competencies that a fashion photographer should know how to coordinate with the other professionals with whom he works: the art director, stylist, make-up artist and hair stylist. The course addresses a very important aspect of the fashion photographer's work, his or her relationship with customers. Students will learn to present their work in digital and printed portfolios, important means of showing all of their professional skills.
The course starts with an introduction to the theoretical aspects necessary to set the foundation for the practical laboratory work: theory and history of photography, theory of light, fashion journalism. In the laboratory hours, all of the fundamentals of digital photography are studied with professional photographers: use of camera and positioning, choice and adjustment of the optics and settings for shooting pictures. All of the concepts and practicalities for setting the scene are also studied: preparation, proper positioning of the lights, choice of framing to best present fashion products, management of models or other professionals involved in the shoot. The course also covers the postproduction of digital images using photo-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, which includes effects to make photographs more technically sophisticated so that students can create unique, communicative images that reflect a high level of theoretical knowledge and technical skill. The course also introduces some concepts of analogic photography. In the final examination project
students will work independently to put into practice all the subjects learned, under the instructors' supervision.
