An intimate immersion into the universe of photographic self-portraiture

Through the lenses of second-year Photography students and the setups created by third-year Design students (entirely crafted using reclaimed materials), this exhibition explores the delicate balance between perception and intimacy. The exhibited works offer a profound and personal insight into human psychology, capturing the most intimate moments, internal conflicts, joys, fears, and reflections of the self.

Rome, December 18, 2023

Through various photographic techniques and artistic styles, the exhibition, that will be held from December 19 to 22 in the underground spaces of Accademia Italiana, will explore human authenticity and vulnerability, immersing the visitors in an emotional journey that oscillates between self-expression and external perception. Self Portrait invites the audience to reflect on their own concept of identity, their connection with others, and how self-portraiture can serve as a form of visual storytelling that surpasses mere aesthetic aspects, embracing the complexity of being human.

Finding oneself” - Eva Cavagna, Silvia Petrucci, Gabriele Vasilij Paiano: Eva’s photographs speak of rebirth, self-reflection and the rediscovery of the self, offering an intimate look at how experiences, challenges and interactions shape our identity. The exhibition has been designed to invite visitors to reconnect with their values, between dreams and deepest desires.

Loneliness” - Davide Ramponi, Sara Calò: The photographs explore the beauty and value of solitude in a positive light. This exhibition encourages viewers to reconsider loneliness as a precious moment, an opportunity to embrace one’s individuality, and connect with their inner essence.

Loneliness” - Luca Ferrarini, Sara Calò: the photographs capture the inner silence, the lack of meaningful connections and the stasis when everything there is always movement around. This exhibition invites visitors to explore restlessness like a cold wind that makes its way through thoughts and generates emotional isolation.

Origins” - Dylan Rees, Tóna Fritsdóttir, Isabella Zofrea, Elisa Dattilo, Erica Perrotta: an exhibition that takes us back to the deeper roots of two photographers: Dylan familial connection with the sea, along whose shores has lived for generations, and Tóna’s homeland, the Faroe Islands. The exhibition layout mirrors the flow of the water element, which streams, reflects and inundates both hearing and sight.

Distorted” - Cäcilia Fleischmann, Jordan Lawrence, Sophie Costa, Juliana Herrmann, Rebekka Eriksen: this exhibition presents a fascinating exploration of the self, offering an intense and thought-provoking look at how our perception of ourselves can be distorted and influenced by external and internal factors. Providing a space for reflection, this exposition aims to stimulate conversations and introspection about the quest for truth behind a sometimes distorted reality.

Little Things” - Shaked Tzubara, Tanan Oyundalai, Gaia Nasta, Gaia Del Pizzo: The exhibition captures the wonder and hidden beauty of the small things that surround us, focusing on often overlooked details. This exhibition invites the audience to reflect on the positive impact that connecting with nature and contemplating the small things can have on our mental and spiritual well-being.
