What sets the Accademia Italiana apart from other art, design and Italian language and culture schools in Italy and around the world?

Accademia Italiana International Student Body: Approximately 40% of the student body is Italian, 20% is American and the remaining 40% hail from across the world. This diverse make-up contributes to a unique learning environment in which students have an opportunity to exchange ideas and express their individual creativity within an international forum. The diversity also presents a unique level of immersion and the opportunity for students from multiple cultural backgrounds to explore the Italian language and culture together.

Unique and Diverse Course Offerings: Students may choose from more than 100 courses in art, design, Italian language and culture and liberal arts including fashion design, costume design, graphic design and visual communications, interior & product design, textiles, drawing & painting, yacht design, window display design, photography, history of art in Italy, Italian literature, international Business and much more.

Faculty and staff: all professors at the Accademia Italiana boast excellent teaching credentials including terminal degrees in their subjects, and draw from their up to date professional experience as all are working professionals in their chosen fields. The staff has decades of experience in student services and advising and is ready to assist students from many diverse culture to settle in and make the most of the academic experience.

Annual International Fashion Show and Design Exhibition: Each spring the design students of the Accademia Italiana’s schools in Italy and Thailand gather in Florence to present their best work to an international audience of over 2,500 invited guests and members of the press. The events are held in a historical Florentine palace and at the Accademia’s main building. Among the invited guest are renowned designers and company representatives including Vivienne Westwood, Carla Fendi, Ottavio Missoni, Alessandro Mendini and more.

World-Renowned Guest Speakers and Class Lecturers: Each term, numerous successful designers and artists visit the Accademia Italiana and share with students their personal backgrounds and knowledge about the field and offer advice useful to up-and-coming young artists and designers. Recent guests to the Accademia have included Oliviero Toscani (photography), Ermanno Scervino (fashion), Eva Cavalli (fashion), Vivienne Westwood (fashion), Riccardo Dalisi (architecture), Silvio Cocco (graphic design), SWATCH Italy, Ikea and more.

Emphasis on Practical Experience: The Accademia Italiana’s teaching philosophy embraces the importance of practical, “real-life” experience. Faculty utilize the host city as a living classroom and incorporate into their lesson plans weekly visits to local museums, Businesses, studios and centers of industry. The majority of some courses are held outside the classroom, as is the case with History of Renaissance Art in Italy, of which over 50% of classes are held in local museums.
