Regenerating Territories: Residenze d’artista a scuola

Regenerating Territories is a project of MAD Murate Art District curated by Valentina Gensini designed with the aim of bringing the real contemporary artistic practice in Florentine schools. The project involved 9 artists in a workshop with the students of 8 middle schools in the city of Florence.

The students of the second year of the Bachelor Degree Course in Photography of the Florentine headquarters of Accademia Italiana, under the guidance of the professor Letizia Francini Naldi, followed the project and created a story by images. The documentation work covered the different phases and the different figures involved in the project going to map the different specificities.

In particular, Giovanni Bandieri photographed the school buildings inserted in the context of the different districts of the city of Florence, testifying to the capillary nature of the project; Fahed Hussin, Bettina Lindblad, Nicoletta Matera-Szczesniek, Marta Meinardi and Matteo Russo documented the activities of the workshops, the exchanges, the relationships, the emotions; Arav Wattal has instead created a kind of workshop with the students inviting them to collaborate in the realization of their portraits. Zuzanna Rokwisz, Gerardo Sanchez Serrano and Ward Qassem instead focused on the artists involved, creating respectively a series of portraits within the schools and interviews that reveal their poetic and educational approach.

he opening is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 at 11:30. The exhibition will be open at Murate Art District in Piazza delle Murate from Tuesday 23 to Saturday, April 27, 14.30 - 19.30.
