Jewellery design students visit Europe's leading jewellery, watch and gemstone trade fair
Rome, 28 February 2024
A three-day voyage of discovery to one of the leading events in the sector in which students from the three-year and the two-year specialisation courses in Jewellery Design were able to get up close and personal with the innovations, trends and technologies at the trader fair, which has now become an international hotspot for aspiring talents, young designers and creative start-up producers.
Six pavilions welcomed visitors. The Watch Pavilion, where renowned manufacturers and up-and-coming brands presented the latest trends; Elegance & Lifestyle, where there was a perfect symbiosis of timeless elegance, traditional goldsmith's art, sensational new products and innovative jewellery constructions; and then High Jewellery, with the 'Fine Jewelry' exhibition area and its particularly precious and luxurious jewellery, not only in terms of workmanship, but also for the use of high-quality materials; Wedding & Design, with an area dedicated to wedding rings, engagement rings and bridal jewellery; and then Carat, with the precious products of renowned exhibitors from all over the world, ending with the Technology/Packaging & Carat/Bijoux pavilion, which is particularly interesting because it revolves around shop design, innovative packaging solutions and first-class security solutions.
Students enjoyed the exhibition areas focusing on contemporary jewellery, fine and high jewellery, equipment and precious stones. Also impressive was the lecture by Katerina Perez, who spoke about her work in the field of popularising jewellery, how her work on social media has developed and how it is necessary to differentiate between the various 'sectors'.
On the third day, the students visited the Pinakothek der Moderne, a museum that houses a permanent installation on contemporary jewellery.
