Da Divise a Uniche: Fashion becomes social empowerment

"Da Divise a Uniche" is the solidarity initiative of GEST and Nosotras Onlus, in collaboration with Accademia Italiana and Casa delle Donne, presented on Wednesday 18 June at the stop of the tram Unità, in a tram "dressed" in magenta.

The project, born in February (here an insight), involved students of the second year of the bachelor course in Fashion Design engaged in designing and creating capsule collections on the theme of female empowerment, through the reuse of uniforms never used by tram drivers, donated by GEST. A social action of great significance, which has combined sustainable recovery by valuing inclusiveness and gender equality. 

The items donated were upcycled by Accademia Italiana’s fashion students, who designed a capsule collection in groups. Among these, a jury composed of GEST and Nosotras, chose the winning project "Her: creativity and inclusion" conceived by Pietro Bellina, Francesco Corsini, Giorgio Maria De Lucia, Mattia Perna and Yu Ying Zhu, and composed of 12 unique garments made with parts of GEST uniforms and precious fabrics, decorated with incisive embroidery. 

The revised uniforms will be the subject of a charity auction whose proceeds will go to Nosotras on the occasion of the International Day against Violence against Women. The unsold outfits will remain, instead, available to women attending the association as formal clothes that can be borrowed to attend job interviews.
