Eighteen lucky students from the Accademia Italiana Arte Moda Design will fly to the United Arab Emirates for a one week visit, as the main players of a very important cultural exchange.

Last year's collaboration between the Accademia and the Sharjah Business Woman's Council (SBWC), represented by Her Excellency Ameera Bin Karam, led to the creation of the "Modern Heritage" project, and this visit confirms a mutual appreciation and the will to continue to work together toward common goals.

Last year the Accademia Italiana's students reinterpreted the great craft tradition of the Emirates in a contemporary way that incorporated "talli", precious ribbons that are entirely handmade by Emirati women using ancient weaving techniques. The goal of this year's collaboration is to give our designers the opportunity to experience in person the heritage and culture of the UAE, to provide them with valuable sources of inspiration. This is a great opportunity for them to learn the traditional crafts of the Emirates and to share their best ideas, thus encouraging new partnerships between different cultures.

Among the many scheduled appointments are: a visit to the Sharjah City University, a tour of Sharjah, participation in the "defashstruction" exhibition and a meeting with the SBWC board members.

This year the project was extended to students enrolled in the three-year course in Interior & Product Design, as well as those enrolled in Fashion Design and Jewellery Design who have already participated in last year's project.
