THE EXPERIENCE OF AN ACCADEMIA ITALIANA FASHION DESIGN GRADUATE

The wonderful world of LIliana Di Gennaro for the past few weeks has been fluctuating in the myriad of pastel colors in the Thai fashion industry that chose her for an internship.

The Napoli born fashion designer, neo-graduate of the Accademia Italiana Florence, will be assisting the top designers of LME, Boonchai Kongpukpaisan’s fashion industry that produces and distributes international brands, headquartered in Bangkok, until September 18.

“I’m trying to find a happy medium between Italian and Thai tastes”, explains LIliana, “in particular following the “EP” lines (one of the LME brands) which is rather commercial and geared towards a young market. Actually – continues the twenty-three year old designer – they really love their pastel colors, the pinks, the little flowers that here in Italy we associate with children’s wear.”

A rather cute or coy style? “Yes, but very feminine, probably closer to the French spirit than to the Italian which is more serious. For the mini-collection that I’m preparing I chose the color mint and for inspiration I’m looking towards the irony of Moschino.” And the accessories? “They love outrageously high heels, especially spike heels and would never go to the office without those 5 cm that make them look taller. For the bags and purses they prefer small – they are attracted by they Miu MIu style.”

Liliana De Gennaro was selected for this internship by Fashion Tv during the year-end fashion show held at the Obihall theater in Florence and has been asked to propose a new summer collection that “EP” will consider and probably put into production. “In any event I am electrified by this experience that is nothing like the academic preparation – she says – I feel like I’m in a film, in a fairyland where everyone is running around with fabrics and pattern bases in their hands.” But you come from Italy, from Florence, in fact, where “Made in Italy” was born in the Sala Bianca. . . “Yes, everyone is very curious about everything I do, especially the outfits and then they watch me and bombard me with questions about Tuscan food and wine . . . Who would have thought that!”
