Training. Ministerial recognition
Accademia Italiana, three year degree

Silvia Pieraccini

It is one of the few fashion and design schools in Italy to have achieved this important recognition: the Accademia Italiana in Florence (with a campus in Rome as well) that in 2014 will be 30 years old, has recently been accredited by the Ministry of Education to award a three year First Level Diploma, equivalent to a mini degree. The accreditation is valid for the three-year programmes in Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Photography in Florence and in Design and Fashion Design at the school in Rome.
"We are now working on revising the study programme - explains the president of the Accademia Italiana, Vincenzo Giubba - because as from October, we will start with the new courses. Already we have had for years accreditation from some universities in the United Kingdom and from some American universities, but the Italian award is something more". It is above all, for a school that despite the economic crisis and the ‘not so popular' fee costs, continues to attract many Italian students: 50% of whom are from Florence, 80% of whom are from Rome, from the couple of thousand students each year. The number of Italian students has even increased in these past years, whilst the number of international students have declined slightly, especially the American ones. The most sought after programmes are Fashion, Design and Photography.
"In this vast sector of the applied arts, there is no crisis - adds Giubba - given that within a year of graduating, our students are able to find work, even if they have to continue their training after they have concluded their studies. There is placement service within the School available for the students. " Opportunities have to be adapted to circumstances - explains the President - that nowadays for example, one can see some brands discontinuing their lower lines and switching to high fashion".
When in 1984 Giubba decided to open the Accademia, in Florence there were no structured schools in fashion and hardly any training in design. "There was no proper training - underlines Giubba - and fashion design wasn't even considered at university. But even day, in the universities fashion design is considered in an artistic and cultural context, without taking into consideration its practical aspects and production". That is what, the Accademia Italiana, with an income of 4 million euro per year, has achieved in 30 years of activity without any public financing, training talents such as the famous Palestinian stylist, Jamal Taslaq, one of the stars on the catwalks of Roman high fashion.

The Accademia becomes a university

Thirty years since after its establishment, the Accademia Italiana, an international school of art, fashion and design with locations in Florence and Rome, celebrates in the best way possible the award of a prestigious and eagerly awaited recognition. A few weeks ago the Italian Ministry of Education (MUIR) issued a decree authorizing the institute to offer Bachelor's degrees recognized as valid in Italy for its three-year programs. Beginning next October at the start of the new academic year, the school will adapt its curriculum to align it with Italian university programs. Thus, a new challenge for the school that has over the years learned to carve out a niche for itself in the world of Italian education. (L.A.)

The Florentine Institute receives Ministerial accreditation
Gold star for art - bachelor's degrees at the Accademia Italiana

The Accademia Italiana has been authorized by the Miur (Italian Ministry of Education) to award 3-year bachelor's degrees equivalent to Italian university degrees. This is an important victory for the international, university level school of art, fashion and design with campuses in Florence and Rome, now authorized by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research to award academic degrees for the three-year programs of Design, Fashion design and Graphic design. A recognition for the Institute founded in Florence in 1984 by architect Vincenzo Giubba, current President, that increases the prestige of one of the first art schools in Italy to project itself onto a global level.
Give value to traditions, participate in the present and contribute to innovation is, in fact, the mission of the Accademia Italiana which is translated into concrete academic choices, where research meets technology with strong, structured connections to the outside world. Together with the theoretical teachings the students learn to use materials and create models in constant, direct confrontation with industries and the marketplace and the evolutions, according to new environmental needs and new technologies, new life styles and new aesthetics. With the newly earned accreditation, awarded by the Ministry on the basis of the quality of teaching guaranteed historically by the school (as can be read in the legal decree), Accademia Italiana is thus the only private Fine Arts University in Florence and in all of Tuscany that can boast an authorization of this kind. From the next academic year, beginning in October 2013 the school will adapt its study programs to those of the university. A plus for the more than 1,000 students who each year attend classes at the campuses in Florence and in Rome and who can look with ever more faith at the working world. Accademia Italiana in Florence Promoted - Now awarding First Level diplomas

Another step forward for the Accademia Italiana, the international school at university and post secondary level in art, fashion and design, with headquarters in Florence and Rome, now authorised by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research) to award First Level academic diplomas for the three year courses in: Design, Fashion Design and Graphic Design in Florence as well as Design and Fashion Design in Rome.
A prestigious recognition for the institute that was founded in Florence thirty years ago, with the main headquarters in Piazza Pitti, the only private Fine Arts University in Florence and in Tuscany accredited by the MIUR, "on the basis of the educational quality up to now guaranteed by the School", that awards a degree title equivalent to the three year degree awarded by Italian universities. Starting from the next academic year, beginning in October, the School will adjust the study programmes to the university programmes. In parallel the traditional university courses accredited by prestigious British universities will be maintained, with the wish to maintain the interests of the many students that come from all over the world, who form half of the student body of the school. In all, there are about one thousand students between the Florence and Rome schools.

THE CASE. Italian Ministry of Education recognizes fashion Academy

After 30 years of activities the Accademia Italiana, international school of art, fashion and design with headquarters in Florence, in Piazza Pitti, and in Rome, sees its 3-year courses of Design, Fashion Design, and Graphic Design in Florence and of Design and Fashion Design in Rome recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education as authorized to award Italian bachelor's degrees. In other words the Accademia Italiana becomes the only private Fine Arts University in Florence and in Tuscany able to award a diploma with the same value of any 3-year degree earned at an Italian university. From the next academic year, late October, to be exact, the school will be applying the new university study programs.
In parallel the school will continue to offer the international bachelor's degree awarded by UK universities that have been attracting for many years students coming from all over the world, as well as professional courses, short and summer courses and masters. The Ministry of Education - After three years, Bachelor's degrees at the Accademia Italiana

It's the jewel in the crown for the Accademia Italiana, the university-level international school of art, fashion and design: the Ministry of Education (MUIR) has equated its three-year degree program with an Italian Bachelor's degree for its programs in Interior Design, Fashion Design and Graphic Design in Florence, and Interior Design and Fashion Design in Rome. This is a prestigious recognition for the institute founded in Florence thirty years ago by professor Vincenzo Giubba.
At the start of the next academic year, at the end of October, the school will adapt its curriculum to align it with Italian university programs. At the same time it will continue to offer the existing Bachelor's degree programs recognized and accredited by prestigious British universities, to continue to meet the needs of its numerous students (over a thousand) who come from around the world and who make up half of the student body.
