With the participation of City Councillor Linda Meleo, who served as patron of the event, Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sports, Tourism and Fashion, and Francesco Silvestri, Member of Parliament, the official presentation of the Collettivo Moda Consapevole ETS (Conscious Fashion Collective) took place on October 1, 2025, at the Campidoglio. The Collective brings together brands, social tailoring initiatives, and creative enterprises committed to ethical and low-impact fashion.

After a year of informal activity, the Collective has become a Third Sector Entity, with the goal of enhancing local enterprises in Rome and its province, fostering synergies between institutions and academies, and promoting responsible production models.

The event, moderated by Mariaelena Liggieri, journalist for Teleambiente, together with Alessandra Gallo, opened with institutional greetings and a presentation of the Collective’s activities. This was followed by a talk on textile waste management and the EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) regulation, featuring contributions from Dr. Michele Priori (Consorzio Cobat Tessile) and Elena Ferrero, co-founder of Atelier Riforma, a pioneering organization in textile end-of-life innovation.

In this context, Accademia Italiana participated through Academic Director Filippo Pernisco, Sustainable Fashion lecturer Barbara Annunziata, and Fashion Design alumnae Federica Cefariello and Sofia Angelino, sharing how sustainability is integrated across our academic programs.

The event also showcased upcycling projects made by the two former students, who presented the recycling and transformation techniques behind their collections. Federica, with her brand Unwanted, explores an eco-friendly, anti-waste concept by reusing leftover materials from upholstery companies in the Lazio region and reviving traditional handcrafting techniques such as crochet and loom weaving. Sofia, with her collection Growth, gives new life to discarded garments—such as denim and tights—creating entirely new outfits through patchwork and crochet techniques.

“The Collective was created as a platform for meeting and collaboration among those who believe in a kind of fashion that respects both people and the environment,” says Alessandra Gallo, co-founder. The event offered a unique opportunity to bring together institutions, academies, and a new generation of creatives, confirming Rome’s role as a laboratory of innovation and sustainability in the fashion sector.
