A new chair for LIVONI designed by the students of Accademia Italiana

An important collaboration between Accademia Italiana and LIVONI, a historic Udine-based seating company that has stood out for its history, tradition and capacity for research and innovation in processes and products since 1895. A brand with an important heritage with a passion for attention to detail and ready to welcome the innovative ideas of young designers.

Since its founding, LIVONI’s mission has been to create a durable, design-oriented product that respects the environment and company’s employees. This determination results in the search for shapes and details with a challenging and never banal design. In its work, it wants to keep alive the tradition of handcrafted wooden chair making, typical of the area.

The design brief launched to the third year Interior and Product Design students called for the reworking of a classic LIVONI chair that could be used in common areas, where the recycling of parts was the focus of the study with the aim of taking historical products, making them contemporary in their disposal and facilitating the re-circulation of the most virtuous materials.

With this in mind, the students worked on the idea of a seating-system that, through added or subtracted components, could change function and purpose, re-interpreting an existing model through a contemporary reading of its details.

The winning project, "Tasca", by Isabella Zofrea and Erica Perrotta, has been prototyped and presented at the Salone del Mobile in Milan with the aim of making it a marketable product for the company.

Below is an excerpt from the letter that Livoni's sole director, Dr. Maurizio Zilio, sent to the students to congratulate them on their excellent work:

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Prof. Christian Ludovici [...] but above all I would like to thank and applaud the young people involved for the skill and ability they demonstrated in the realization of the projects and their graphic presentation. [...] In addition, one last personal consideration, the fruit of my professional and work experience: I was surprised and impressed by your skills in terms of design and presentation of the models. I am sure that with this preparation and ability, you will achieve excellent results in the professional field, once you have completed your studies.
