Design students meet Florentine craftsmanship

New Made in Florence partnership for Graphic and Product Design students. A meeting between design studies and an historical artisan shop specialized in the making of furniture and lighting in brass and bronze.

On October 18th Il Bronzetto, an historical artisan shop based in Florence, presented two projects related to the new collaboration established with Accademia Italiana. Protagonists of the projects are Graphic Design senior students and Product Design master's students.

 

Specialized in the making of furniture and lighting in brass and bronze, the shop launched two contests to be concluded within the first semester. Graphic design class started designing packaging for the new shop’s “Signature gifts” line, soon available on the official e-commerce of Il Bronzetto. At the end of the contest the scholars will show their projects and the three most interesting will recieve awards. At the same time Product Design Master students will engage in the development of a wallpaper with a 3D lighting incorporated. The brand will select the winner based on choice of materials and context of use.

 

Since 1963, Il Bronzetto has been creating unique high-quality products forged by bronze and brass artisans. Founded by Antonio Calcinai, the firm was handed down from generation to generation. Today it forges manufactured goods appreciated all over the world, mixing old knowledge, dexterity and high tech processes.

 

The partnership between Accademia Italiana and artisan shops of the territory is one of the founding values of the school. Passing on artisans' knowledge to the students is an incredible source of pride for the Institute. The partnership with Il Bronzetto confirms this value, creating an important collaboration to preserve historical artisan activities whithin the territory.
