Baroque meets street art, minimalism, plexiglass, resin and new technologies: on the occasion of the Roma Jewelry Week (27 September - 6 October), the international students of Accademia Italiana revisit the style that has dominated squares and basilicas of the capital. The creations will be on display from 4 to 6 October at the Mercati di Traiano as part of the Incinque Jewels Contest, dedicated to young talents of contemporary jewelry.
"The Rome Jewelry Week is an important springboard for our students. In Accademia Italiana - says Claudia Romano, coordinator of the courses in Jewelry Design - we are of the idea to make traditional techniques and new materials dialogue, creating a new point of view that dispels the idea of the traditional jewel. The sinuous intrusion of new technologies, alternative materials, sometimes self-produced, linked to the idea of aesthetic and functional design, gives life to objects that stimulate the imagination of the viewer, making the creative process impactful".
Six designers selected for the Premio Incinque from the Accademia Italiana’s Jewelry Design course. Alberto Spallaccia is inspired by the hand of Michelangelo’s David to make a bracelet in brass, bronze, plexiglass and resin with techniques of tunneling, welding and polishing. Fabiola Fasoli literally sews the plant of St Peter’s Square and Navona Square with colored polyester thread on large hammered brass earrings. Federica Marchitelli creates a brooch-pendant to be observed from all directions, using transparent resin, brass, bronze and silver, low relief modeling, with creation of silicone mold, grinding and polishing, combining the techniques of traforing, filing and welding, To the hand engraving. Lin Wang declendes the Infinite Baroque of the Roma Jewelry Week 2024 in an "Infinite Grow", creating a brooch able to recall the concepts of grandeur, drama, dynamism, tension and vitality from both a spiritual and philosophical point of view. His pin fuses the tree of life - biblical symbol - with the flower of life, a geometric figure present in both Western and Eastern cultures representing the connection between man and divine and the growth of consciousness. On these two icons a forest of gems and small sculptures inhales the four seasons, mixing different ancient and innovative techniques for processing. Negar Sanei uses a 3D modeling program to develop his pendant in wood, pearl, silver and fabric. Sofia Bressanin reinterprets the classic chocker in an urban key, drawing inspiration from the most baroque street art that the streets of Rome can offer.
The winner of the Prize Incinque Jewels will be decreed on Saturday, October 5 at 17.
